December Meeting/Christmas Dinner/CBC
The Handlan Chapter of the Brooks Bird Club will meet this Monday, Dec. 15th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Boulevard Shoney's (where Charleston's Kanawha Boulevard crosses the Elk River) for our Christmas dinner/Dec. meeting. We'll be in a private room near the buffet table. The buffet is modestly priced, or you can order from the menu.
Among other things, we'll be making plans for the Saturday, January 3rd Christmas Bird Count (CBC), where we count all the birds we can find within a 15 mile diameter circle. Many of you have well-established routines for participating in the count. If you are new to our CBC and aren't sure whether your feeders are inside the count circle, or if you'd like to go birding with one of the field groups, these items and more will be covered at the meeting. If you can't make the Dec. meeting and need information about how to participate, contact Marilyn Morton at 727-5077, or Oldsquaw2@aol.com.
After spending part or all of the day counting, everyone is invited to gather at the Morton's house, which is always a pleasurable way to conclude the day. We'll have good food, exchange birding stories, and compile our cumulative results. Marilyn will have directions to their home at Shoney's, or she can e-mail them to you on request.
Saturday Bird Outing
We'll have a birding outing at Kanawha State Forest this Saturday morning, Dec. 13th. Meet at the swimming pool parking lot at 8:15 a.m. This will be a good opportunity to practice winter birding skills before the CBC. If you need more information, contact Jim Waggy at 925-6379, or email@example.com.
See you Monday!
