January Meeting

The next meeting of the Handlan Chapter of the Brooks Bird Club will be this coming Monday, January 12th, at 6:30 p.m. at the South Charleston Public Library.  There will be an Executive Committee meeting at 6:00.  George Dasher will present a program titled, The Geology of West Virginia.  We are meeting on the second Monday of the month since the library will be closed on the following Monday for Martin Luther King Day.

Christmas Bird Count

We had a beautiful day for the CBC on January 3rd.  We collectively identified 68 species, which is an outstanding total for our count circle.  We'll have a complete species list available to hand out at the meeting, and we'll also discuss some of the count highlights.  Don and Marilyn Morton did their usual wonderful job of hosting us in their St. Albans home for dinner after the count.

Winter Walk

The Winter Walk at Kanawha State Forest will be this Saturday, January 10th, at 2:00 p.m., sponsored by the Kanawha State Forest Foundation.  Meet at the last group of shelters (shelter #5, Johnson Hollow), with the big gravel parking lot on the left side of the road.  This year there will be three program options.  Doug Wood will lead a walk/talk with the theme of how the forest has changed over the last 200 years.  Dale Porter will lead a drive/walk/talk about the human history of Kanawha State Forest.  And there will be a Nature Walk for Kids, led by several Master Naturalists.

See you Monday, or Saturday, or both.
