2013 CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT, CHARLESTON, WV

Handlan Chapter - Brooks Bird Club

 

       The count area consists of all points within a 15 mile diameter circle centered at the (now unoccupied) La-Z-Boy building site located at 38 21' 43˝ N, 81 42' 51˝ W.   The circle extends from Kanawha City west to St. Albans, and from Kanawha State Forest north to Rocky Fork and Wallace Heights.  The area is about 40% residential, 35% deciduous woods, 17% farm and grassland, and 17% streams and ponds.  The count took place Saturday,     December 14, 2013.  Skies were mostly cloudy with some rain.  Temperature was 31 to 47 F, wind southwest 0-12 mph, open water, and wild food crop fair.  There were twenty-three observers in ten parties.
